We've been reading a lot of stories. We started with "Pete the Cat: Too Cool for School." Pete the Cat was very silly...and ridiculous...when he wanted to wear ALL of his clothes to school! We had to help Pete choose one special outfit that made his look cool!
We started reading a new series by Mo Willems. Elephant & Piggie books are hilarious! We read "Can I Play Too?" where a snake wants to play catch with Elephant and Piggie but there is a problem. Ask me to retell this silly story and how they solved snake's problem. We talked about the "Buddy Bench" this week during library class. The Buddy Bench is a special place to sit during recess if you need a friend to play with. We talked about how we can always find room for one more friend to play, just like in the story about Elephant, Piggie and Snake! We made a book to teach other friends about how to use the Buddy Bench during recess. Our last story was called "Elephant & Piggie: There is a Bird on Your Head!." Did you ever have someone who kept bugging you? Well we had to help Elephant find a solution to get rid of some birds that made a nest on his head! We even made our own bird nest hats to retell the story so ask me what happens in this book. We'll be finishing out September learning about nursery rhymes and fables. We'll read Humpty Dumpty and then try to build a new wall for him so he won't fall down again! Then we'll read about the tortoise and the hare to find out who would win a race between the two. We'll even have two special visitors that will be joining us to help tell this fable. Hmmmmmm....I wonder who they could be? Make sure to check back in October for more Library updates! Welcome to Kindergarten & Pre-K Library!
We do things a little differently at our school. The Library is not just a place for books, it's a fun place for learning, reading, exploring, discovering, sharing, and having fun! Each week we will read a story together and then we will participate in fun discovery centers that teach us different skills such as reading, writing, letter/number/shape recognition, fine and gross motor skills, technology skills, engineering skills, creativity, sharing and working together with others, and much more! Check our blog often to find out what's happening in the Library! This week we read "Froggy Goes to School" by Jonathan London. We shared stories about our first day of school and compared our experiences with Froggy's. Some classes also read "Please Play Safe!" by Margery Cuyler. We discussed "safe" and "sorry" ways to play outside on our new playground. |
