I've been busy setting up the Library for a new gaggle of Kindergarteners to come in next week and actually had time to start weeding through all those old and torn books collecting dust on the shelves.
After much reflection on how my classes went last year I will be trying out a few new things hoping to make the routine more smooth for both myself and my students. I had a wonderful opportunity this past summer to participate in the i3 training with some of my colleagues. The best part of the training was getting so many great ideas from my fellow teachers. We will be working with the same population of students so I hope to use some of their "tricks" to provide a more consistent environment for the children.
So far his year I've added a "Finish Line" to the Library. When students have cleaned up and are ready to line up I'll choose a student line leader to wave the checkered flag signaling that Library has come to an end. Students will line up on the checkered finish line (black and white checkered duct tape....what in the world did I do before fancy duct tape?) to wait for their teacher to pick them up. Robertson School students were nicknamed the "Racers" when I first came to this school five years ago so the "finish line" seemed a fair tribute. Just another gimmick to help make transitions go a little more smoothly...let's see how it works.
I'll keep you posted on other "gimmicks" and ideas that I'm trying as the year goes on.
The school year begins on September 5th....I wonder what will be in the Mystery Bag? Hmmmmmmm? Stay tuned.

Hmmmmmmm? Manténgase en sintonía.
