This week in Library we learned all about spiders. We examined a web and discussed why spiders build them (to catch their food) then we watched a video of a real spider spinning a web. We observed the fake spider's body and noticed that spiders have two body parts and eight legs and we read in a non-fiction book that some spiders have eight eyes! Wow! And gross!
Our story today was "The Very Busy Spider" by Eric Carle. We acted out all the animals in the story as we read how the spider was too busy to play with her farmyard friends. At the end we discovered why she was so busy...she was spinning a web to catch a pesty fly that we saw buzzing around on every page.
After the story we played a game. We sat in "web formation" (a circle) around the perimeter of the rug. There was a mystery box containing toy animals in the center. We took turns picking out an animal (no peeking!) and then asked the question: Was this a character from the book "The Very Busy Spider?" If we answered yes, we placed the animal on the green "yes" spot; if we determined it was not a character in the book we placed it on the red "no" spot. We had fun sorting the characters and winning "spider eggs" (tiny marshmallows) as a treat!
All in all, we learned that spiders may look creepy but that they are very useful to us and if we see a spider we should just let it spin its web.

Había algo muy espeluznante y
espeluznantes en la
Bolsa Misterio esta
semana! Eeeeeek!
ocho ojos! Wow! Y qué
asco!
Nuestra historia de
hoy "The Spider muy
