I decided to give another Pete book a whirl, since the kiddos weren't really into the "New Guy" story. "Pete the Cat: Too Cool for School" ended up being a winner! It was short and sweet and silly. Perfect for a bunch of students who are short, sweet, and....silly!
In the Mystery Bag Pete had his school supplies...a notebook, crayons, a backpack...but he was missing something...his clothes! Oh, No Pete! You can't go to school without your clothes! In the story we read how Pete wanted to make everyone happy by wearing THEIR favorite clothes...all of them...until he got too hot. Finally, Pete decided that the best way to be cool is to be yourself and wear what makes YOU happy.
We had fun playing the "Hide the Pete" game. One friend hid a picture of Pete behind one of the different colored shoes on the chart board. Each student took a turn guessing which shoe Pete was hiding behind. "Red shoe, red shoe. Is Pete hiding behind you?" If he was then that friend got to hide Pete next, if it wasn't the right shoe then the next friend took a turn guessing.
After our story we were so tired (kindergarten and Pre-K are tough!) that we relaxed by playing in Centers. We had fun in our first Library class! I wonder what will be in the Mystery Bag next week?

"Pete el gato: Too Cool for School" terminó siendo un ganador!
Oh, No Pete!
