We started story time with the Mystery Bag and discovered a bunch of mixed up mittens! Ms. Mancini was having difficulty sorting them into pairs (btw: a pair is when you have two objects that match…like a pair of shoes) so we helped her match all 17 pairs of mittens! It was easy peasy lemon squeezy!
During the story we kept track of the animals that found the mitten by using a big red pillow case as the mitten. As each animal appeared in the story we added it to the pillow case until it was so full it burst open! After reading the book we re-told the story by pretending to be the animals that crawled into the mitten. We used a red tablecloth as the mitten and the best part was when we tossed the animals into the air reenacting the bursting mitten from the book.
Our make and take activity was cutting and sequencing pictures of the animals from the story and adding them to a paper bag that we are pretending to use as a mitten. Ask me to re-tell you this story using the paper bag mitten I made in library class.
On Tuesday we took a break from the mitten and combined with Ms. Jane's classes to make a special Valentine's Day project. First we listened to the story "Bear in Love" by Daniel Pinkwater about a bear who gets special little surprise gifts from a secret admirer. Then we learned how to draw and cut-out heart shapes that we used to make our very own bear in love!
